Links Studios
Grant Street
Nairn
IV12 4NN
A former school house for the Fishertown area until the 1960s, Wasps redeveloped the building in 2015.
A short walk from Nairn Beach, Links Studios serves a small group of visual artists based in the Highlands.
First opened in 1851, the surrounding community’s children passed through the school until it closed in the late 1960s. During busy fishing seasons, many pupils were taken out of class to work alongside their families. Mr Jamieson, the headmaster at the start of the 20th century, noted during term time: ‘Attendance pretty good except in the afternoons when baiting keeps a good many of the bigger boys at home’. Absences were also due to ‘bramble gathering and golf’ and ‘potato gathering’.
Today, the building provides dedicated creative space to around 15 artists, including painters, tapestry makers and sculptors.
