Since 1986, Wasps has had a presence at Meadow Mill across three floors, which includes 58 artist studios and a Project Space used for exhibitions, workshops and presentations.
Meadow Mill is a former jute mill in the Blackness area of Dundee, which today provides studios to around 100 visual artists and designers from across Tayside. It is the largest facility of its kind in the region.
Formerly known as North Dudhope Mill, the building was opened in 1874 by Urqhuart Lindsay and Co., with around 500 people working there at the peak of Dundee’s textile boom. This jute mill specialised in the spinning and weaving of jute before it was sent on to be used in the city’s other flourishing industries; whaling, fishing and shipbuilding.
Visual artist and curator Lada Wilson has been based at Meadow Mill for over a decade. Se’s said of her experience working there:
‘After many years, my studio is like a second home – the dedicated space where I work on my projects, including my curatorial work and the running of the 201 Telephone Box Gallery. It also holds my artist’s book collection, ABC FSVP.
My projects and exhibitions take me to many places and this is exactly why my studio is that steady base to always come back to. Yet, just as Marcel Duchamp, who resisted traditional notions of tidying his studio, I also see my studio as a conceptual laboratory where the accumulation of ‘things’ is considered part of my creative process.’

The Project Space is on the fourth floor and benefits from original flagstone flooring and lots of natural light. It is used for exhibitions, projects, workshops or short-term artist residencies.
Those booking the space have access to a stock a tables and chairs to use.
