Patriothall is red-brick former industrial bakery building in the heart of Stockbridge.
Today, Patriothall is home to over fifty artists and features a gallery space which supports an annual programme of exhibitions.
Wasps purchased and refurbished the building in 2004, securing the future of the studios for Edinburgh-based artists. The gallery space is managed by Wasps for the benefit of its creative community and wider audience.
Sara Brennan is a tapestry artist with a studio at Patriothall. She has said about working there:
Having had my studio for over 30 years I am one of the long term tenants in Patriothall. My studio has been a unquestionable and constant support behind my work. It has allowed me over many years the time to focus on developing my woven tapestries, drawings and thoughts. I love the immersion that the studio gives, the quiet focus, the time to work. My studio enabled me to carry on working around having two children. I am now very much a mid-career artist and my tapestries are woven mainly for exhibitions.
The studio is large enough to accommodate my scaffolding loom, meaning I can make work on a large scale. There is something unique and quite special about a building that houses and caters for such a diverse group of people and I particularly appreciate the conversations and friendships with this supportive community.
