The Briggait is Wasps’ headquarters, set in the historic A-listed market hall complex in Glasgow city centre.
Wasps redeveloped and opened The Briggait as a cultural hub in 2010, following its closure as the city’s fish market in the 1970s and a handful of temporary uses.
The Briggait offers the following to creative of all kinds and the general public:
Fraser Taylor is a multi-disciplinary artist based at The Briggait. He’s said of his experience with Wasps:
‘In 2013 I received a one-year sabbatical from my teaching position at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I decided to return to Scotland and after an inspired meeting with Wasps, I secured a studio at The Briggait in Glasgow and a residency at The Booth in Shetland. That year changed everything.
This experience played a significant part in my decision to relocate from Chicago back to Glasgow in 2017. Since then, I have had a beautiful studio at The Briggait. The light is incredible and even on an overcast grey day in Glasgow it is a space full of assurance and possibility. Its high ceiling and sense of openness allows an exploration of scale which is important to me as an interdisciplinary artist. Every day I walk through my studio door I am filled with a desire to make.’
