The former Granton Gas Works Railway Station has been transformed into a cutting-edge creative hub at the entry point to the Granton Waterfront Regeneration Project.
First opened in February 1903, Granton Railway Station was built to accommodate the commute for people working at the nearby Gas Works. Just over 120 years later, Wasps Studios (in partnership with City of Edinburgh Council) has established a new hub for artists and makers.
Granton Station is one of Wasps’ buildings in Edinburgh, providing 18 studios and a white cube gallery/workshop space for hire. The Edwardian red brick building also features lockers and shower facilities, 24/7 access for tenants and a passennger lift.
Tom Speedy is a painter based in Edinburgh, who joined Granton Station in August 2025. We asked him about his experience of working out of Granton Station so far:
‘Having just graduated from Dundee, Wasps has really helped me carry on the momentum and creative buzz that felt so important during art school. It’s been amazing to have my own studio space at Granton Station – somewhere I can truly make my own and feel fully immersed in my practice. It’s a beautiful building and has been a really joyful, trusting environment to create work in, surrounded by a supportive and inspiring creative community.’
